In the driver side footwell/side of the console on a 2004 Porsche Cayenne.
I turned the part of it with the red line and there are some strange beeps and the two red lights on the dash flash. It’s a two part knob, one with stops and the other is a volume knob-esque feel.
Any ideas?

Did you consult the owners manual...?

It releases Hannibal Lecter.

No idea. The red lights lead me to believe it has something to do with the alarm.

Some sort of hard wired radar or laser warning system? Maybe a jammer? Look in the front grille.

Of course not! Reading is for squares! Plus, I’m 99% sure it’s aftermarket.

I’ve seen those lights before. Definitely a laser/radar system of some sort.

Well if those little red lights in front o fthe clock symbol and “0.0” mileage symbol are the ones that flashed, and there were two different knobs in one, them I’m guessing it probably adjusts the clock and trip computer?

It does the thing.

Those aren’t factory. It’s some aftermarket installation.

It’s the transmoggrifier.

That was my first idea.
I took a look in the grille, but nothing stands out. Maybe they hid it under the bumper?
They blink right and then left. And the smaller knob is a volume knob for the beeps.

Kinda looks like a bass controller dial thingy, are there any other signs that the car had subs installed?

Yeah, maybe bumper area. Possibly behind the rear view mirror too or tucked near the A pillars. As well, check the rear window glass and rear bumper area too.

Nope, rear cargo area is bone stock. There also is no typical signs of wiring in the engine bay, not that I could really tell.

NO NO NO NO Not the red one! Don’t ever push the red one!

Whoa does it even HAVE a battery? So much plastic...

Ok I found it... its probably an older K40 electronics radar detector/ laser jammer system.

It’s kinda blurry, but would this be it? Located where the mirror attaches to the windshield.

I’ll let the guys at the dealership know. I’m not sure if they’re legally allowed to sell it with that installed.

No that looks like the rearview mirror mount itself.
Look where a similar system is installed on Cayenne here:

Which state or country or province?

Indiana

Radar detectors are legal in Indiana but jammers dont seem to be (which is normal for most places). It may have both or may have just the basic detector for the front and rear.

I’ll probably tell them anyways. It’s something they may want to know about when they get asked.

I think the Cayenne like many German things that want clean engine bays have the battery in the trunk, or hopefully not like a FWD Cadillac (under the trunk). Really clean install job.
